    Biography / Eulogy

Some people are remembered for a single achievement. Emmanuel Martina will be remembered for a lifetime of showing up for others.

Born and raised in the historic Otrobanda district of Willemstad, Emmanuel grew up surrounded by the colorful culture, rich traditions, and close-knit neighborhoods that make Curaçao unique. From an early age, he developed a deep appreciation for community and a strong belief that everyone deserved kindness and respect.

Emmanuel spent much of his career as an electrician, a profession he approached with remarkable pride and attention to detail. Over the years, he helped wire homes, businesses, schools, and churches throughout the island. Many people trusted him not only because of his expertise but because they knew he would do the job honestly and properly.

To Emmanuel, work was about more than earning a living. It was about helping people feel safe and cared for.

Outside of work, he was known as the unofficial organizer of family gatherings. Whether it was a birthday celebration, holiday barbecue, or a simple Sunday afternoon meal, Emmanuel had a way of bringing people together. His home was often filled with laughter, music, and the aroma of traditional Curaçao dishes prepared for family and friends.

He had a lifelong love for music, especially classic Caribbean rhythms and local Curaçaoan artists. Friends often recall seeing him singing along to favorite songs while working on projects around the house or relaxing on the porch during the evening.

Emmanuel also enjoyed spending time near the water. Many weekends were spent fishing with friends, watching the boats in the harbor, or simply enjoying the sea breeze that reminded him how fortunate he was to call Curaçao home.

A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Emmanuel believed that life's greatest accomplishments were measured in relationships rather than possessions. He encouraged those around him to stay humble, work hard, and never forget where they came from.

His grandchildren brought him immense joy, and he rarely missed an opportunity to attend school events, sports matches, or family celebrations. To them, he was not only a grandfather but a storyteller, mentor, and source of unconditional support.

Though his passing leaves a space that can never truly be filled, his legacy lives on in the values he shared, the family he loved, and the countless lives he touched.

He leaves behind memories that will be treasured and stories that will continue to be told for generations.

"Let all that you do be done in love." — 1 Corinthians 16:14
